Media Diary: 2019
This year is almost over. So here's small a list of things what I'm (maybe) looking forward to next year. Also I'm having problems with embedding the trailers in this post for some reason, so the links contain those if you're interested.
Games
To be honest, this year I only ended up playing a couple of the games I bought. So I'll be starting off with playing some on that list. And the first one will be the classic from 1998, Grim Fandango. In the story you follow Manny Calavera, a travel agent in the Land of the Dead. It mixes Mexican traditions, the Aztec's mythology about the afterlife and the film noir style.
Also Ori and the Blind Forest is getting a sequel. That's one of the few games I might buy right when they release. The shiny art style, music and the whole atmosphere was great in the first game.
Movies
I really don't know what's happening in the world of movies next year, apart from the millions of superhero movies that just keep coming. However, this one has caught my attention and I'm not really having high hopes for it. It's Battle Angel: Alita.
Based on this manga with the same name, which I really enjoyed as a teenager. To be honest, I don't remember that much about it. But we all know that western adaptations of manga or anime are not generally that good (like the recent offender, Ghost in the Shell) and the trailers for this movie don't really convince me. The story is based in this post-apocalyptic future, where Alita, a cyborg that has lost her memories, is found in a garbage pile by a doctor. She does remember though this legendary martial art style Panzer Kunst and starts to look for her past memories.
I probably have to start checking out what else is happening with movies next year.
TV
I enjoy Neil Gaiman's books, so I'm looking forward to the Good Omens series. I hope it's good.
Music
I hope Spotify continues to give me surprisingly good recommendations. And please, if I listen to one single heavy metal song, don't keep recommending me heavy metal all the time.
Books
I've never really read that many poems, but I noticed some time ago that I do seem to enjoy some contemporary poems a lot. So more poems 2k19.
Art
We ended up on getting an exhibition time next summer in Galleria Uusi Kipinä in Lahti. So looking forward to that.
And the Young Artist of the Year is Nastja Säde Rönkkö. She works alone, but also in this art collective LaBeouf, Rönkkö & Turner. And yes, that's Shia LaBeouf. They do, I think, mostly performative pieces about things like human nature, social rituals, community. I'm not really familiar with their work, but I'm probably going to read more about it.
That's the (short) list.
