Media Diary: YT food channels
I really like to cook if I have time even though I keep repeating the same old recipes. And sometimes I love watching all kinds of food channels in Youtube. Here's a few that I personally really like and have watched recently.
I just started following Emmymade in Japan. She tries different recipes and ingredients from different countries. Fans often send her things to taste or cook with (like the video below, she got pine-bark flour from a viewer). She open-mindedly tries all kinds of weird stuff, like different countries MRE's (military rations), vegan mock meats and old hard times recipes.
She is very friendly and calm and describes everything from what she does to how the food tastes very well and profoundly. The channel is very chill and the videos are relaxing. Even when she doesn't like something she continues to eat and describe it.
Maangchi is a very sweet and happy lady, who makes all kinds of Korean foods. The videos are fun and the recipes are very well described and don't seem to be overly complicated. She also has videos of how to find right ingredients in supermarkets for the recipes.
I've followed her for a while now and tried a few of the recipes.
Bon Appétit
It's mostly a test kitchen channel with different themed "series" I guess. I enjoy the experimentality of some of the videos. Like this series of this one chef, Claire, making gourmet versions of very basic foods, like ramen or some typical American candies like Twinkies. There are other things too, like Kids try -series, cooking with celebrity guests etc. It's a pretty big and popular channel.
The editing is very chill and the people feel like real people and not so much like personas.

This post is super useful, you have no idea. I'm terrible when it comes to cooking and this might actually save me! Also, seeing people try typical foods from your home country is always really interesting!
ReplyDeleteI like these kinds of cooking videos and channels that show you the actual process, instead of recipe books which have to rely on written instructions. Makes approaching new recipes much easier, at least for someone like me who doesn't particularly like cooking (and sucks at it).
ReplyDeleteThat Bon Appétit -channel also looks fun, I'll have to check out their other videos too!
I just made some very I-don't-know food today, so maybe I should actually start watching some cooking videos..! I know how to cook but I hate following recipes?? So these might help. Do you have any suggestions for food channels that make simple healthy food and the videos would be made kinda.. short :'D
